Layne Storey 4.3

Nose: Unadulterated, it presents a bold, vinous aroma profile with hints of raisin, honey, dark chocolate, and aged wood. Following a period of resting, earthy notes emerge. Dilution reveals leathery characteristics and amplifies the earthy qualities. Palate: An intriguing blend of intensely sweet wine, cooked fruit notes, and very dry, astringent tannins. Flavors include honey, red berries, leather, assorted herbs, and a touch of flinty, mineral ash. The consistency is nearly viscous. Dilution significantly mellows the palate by moderating the tannins and enhancing the honey flavor. Finish: Moderate to Long. Wine with honey and spice, plus mint. This spirit offers much to appreciate, though I felt it required dilution to fully reveal its best attributes. It's potent and engaging straight, but adding water contributes layers and refinement. Tasted from a sample purchased at Tobermory Distillery on April 14th, 2025 “Very Good”: 87/100 (4.25 stars)
