Three Ships 10 Year

I purchased a sample of a South African whisky for the first time because it received high praise from a spirits magazine and was affordably priced. I'm glad I did, as it was an interesting find. Aroma: Initially, delicate heather. After some time in the glass, I detected a creamy berry note, reminiscent of a long-forgotten soda from my youth, or perhaps Cherry Coke. Delightful! (2/3). Palate: Very smooth, with a rich, melting honey texture. (2/3). Finish: Short – a bit disappointing that the honey doesn't linger longer (1.5/3). Bonus: 0.5/1 for value. Overall: 6/10. A very pleasant whisky with wide appeal, suitable for both novices and experienced drinkers. Not the most complex dram, just a good, easy-drinking spirit all around. I'd be happy to have a bottle. There's something truly wonderful and inviting about bringing your nose to a whisky glass and catching the first hint of subtle peat. You add salted caramel, some lemon extract, and wow, your lips are in heaven. Then comes the surprise: THIS IS SOUTH AFRICAN?!?! Apparently so, and what a significant improvement from the younger 5-year-old. From beginning to end, with its gentle oak and cinnamon aromas, this is a fantastic whisky!

Sweet peat, pipe tobacco, and brown sugar on the nose. Smooth and creamy texture on the palate, with sweet tropical fruit. A touch of cinnamon spice provides a medium-length finish. I'm very impressed with the smoothness and complexity of this whisky.

Aroma - Moderate peat, medicinal, vanilla, banana, pineapple, lemon, coriander, wood. Palate - Slightly oily, vanilla, banana, lemon, cream. Finish - Long, fruit and smoke. 43% ABV

This is the first single malt from Scotland I've tried. It surpassed my expectations. There's a slight bitterness at the end, and it's quite peaty.
