About this bottle

Launched in March 2022, this is one of four extended cask-finished bourbons in the second release from Barton 1792 Distillery's Thomas S. Moore line. All four releases utilize the distillery's high-rye bourbon recipe, aged for 5-6 years. For this specific expression, cognac casks that had previously held cognac for over 6 years were used for finishing. The finishing process lasted 2-4 years, and the batch was bottled at 93.4 proof.

Chance Hood 3.5

Very rich and sweet on the nose. Didn't carry over to the palate on this tasting, however. Mostly dry oaky leather here. Nothing remarkable about the finish. Hopefully, some of the nose's notes make their way to the palate next time. 3/2023 - Same rich, sweet nose. However, it now transfers to the palate. Still a thin mouthfeel, but the flavors are more pronounced. Quite an enjoyable sip.

Alexandria Erickson 3.5

Nose: Rich caramel, vanilla sweetness, butterscotch, and iodine. Palate: Prominent oak upfront, vanilla, caramel – a very mild sweetness. Finish: A medium burn that evolves into a pleasant cinnamon and caramel finish. It lasts a long time, with a rich cinnamon flavor noticeable with each deep breath.

Finley Lawler 3.5

Nose: Toffee, peanut butter, caramel, and oak. Palate: Vanilla and butter, with subtle barrel notes and a lingering peppery finish. Overall: Quite good, but I was disappointed that the aromas didn't translate to the palate as I had hoped.

Tyler Law 3.3

It possesses an enjoyable sweetness that isn't overwhelming. The flavors are robust, though I'm uncertain if they harmonize perfectly. Still quite pleasing.

Christopher Nieto 4.0

The best of the group. Authentic bourbon character. Certainly sweet. A rich and viscous mouthfeel. Very satisfying.

Tyler Rankin 4.3

A bourbon and barbecue brunch event.
