Crystal Stephenson 4.0

This is my first contribution here. Quite interesting. Distilled in 1985, I was compelled to acquire and review it. Nose - Light oak, apples, some butterscotch, and a noticeable amount of alcohol. Water is needed. Water reveals notes of custard, baked bread, and honey. Taste - A full body. Sweet, with some smoke, green apple, cork, and evident signs of used oak barrels. Water brings out honey nut cheerios. Apples and pears, I'm almost tasting the finish of an apple. I am very pleased with this. Complex, likely entirely from ex-bourbon casks (refill). It's exceptionally good, and while perhaps not entirely worth $300, it's close. With only 3816 bottles produced, it's a straightforward purchase if it appeals to your preferences. Rated 4.0 due to its age, batch strength, natural color, and the spicy, intense finish. I was uncertain what to expect and am quite impressed. I question if I've rated it highly due to surprise, as I genuinely anticipated disappointment (which raises the question of why I'd purchase a $300 bottle expecting disappointment... I have an issue).
