Cali Burdette 4.5

Remember when I mentioned winning 10 bottles from an incredible Whisky Auction? The second bottle I opened was this Macallan 20yo, 1984 Signatory Vintage, Cask Strength. Mr. Richard Gooding never had the chance to open this bottle from "the perfect collection," and now someone from Ecuador has had the opportunity:) If you see the words "Macallan," "20 years," and "Cask Strength" on the same label, you know this is a very expensive spirit. The former owner of Pepsi possessed the most remarkable Macallan collection, and this could be one of its most complex examples. Bottled at 55.9% ABV, it has a tawny color. The aroma is fantastic. It begins with notes of chocolate and Nutella. Hazelnut, oranges, and Drambuie liqueur. Coffee beans and cinnamon powder. Very powdery, actually, like milk chocolate. After a sip, it revealed citrus notes; also, Moon Pie. Caramel cookies. On the palate, it was very different from a typical Macallan and quite potent. It started with an amazing red chili flavor, followed by red fruits. Chocolate, dulce de leche, oranges, salt, and tobacco. The aftertaste was not overly complex but was very delicious. Coffee, ginger, sulfur, and salt. Long and lingering. Overall, this is a beautiful dram from a highly sought-after bottle with a rich history. It doesn't feel excessively strong despite its 55.9% ABV, and it is both sweet and spicy. A superb whisky, but nowhere near its current market value (if you can find it). My rating for it is 93 out of 100. Cheers!
