Have you ever experienced that feeling when anticipating a movie or TV show for a long time, and upon finally seeing it, it completely meets your expectations? That's precisely the sensation I had with this 1993 Single Oloroso Cask Glendronach. This 27-year-old expression was fully matured in an Oloroso sherry puncheon, cask #7276. Its nearly black color suggests it can't possibly disappoint. On the nose, it's an explosion of red wine notes. Chocolate and hazelnut, red berries. Wow, this smells incredible. Cocoa cream. Can aroma be described as 'beautiful'? This is magical. The palate is equally perfect. Wine-like, abundant with red fruits such as strawberries and some dates. Plenty of red fruit wines and berries. The aftertaste was very good, though not as astonishing as the nose and palate. It had astringency, notes of purple plums, and a slight ginger presence. Overall, I believe I would have awarded this dram a perfect score of 100 in the past. However, after reviewing over 950 whiskies, I've refined my scoring system for greater accuracy. The aftertaste was the sole aspect that didn't achieve a full score. My rating for this extraordinary dram is 97 out of 100.
