This whisky was produced in 1971, the same year Mercedes Benz developed the airbag, Jim Morrison passed away, the NASDAQ was established, and "El Chavo del 8" debuted. I was born in 1983, meaning this spirit was aging for 12 years before my birth and was ready for consumption 51 years later by an Ecuadorian at the distillery where it originated. The Glendronach 1971 vintage, a 42-year-old single cask from PX puncheon #1246, is my new ultimate favorite whisky. It was distilled in February 1971 and bottled in May 2013, with an alcohol content of 44.6%. The aroma alone is captivating, featuring dark and red old fruits, a remarkable blueberry note – a first for me – alongside chocolate fudge, chocolate bars, and red berries. After the initial taste, it transformed into the most incredible cherry syrup, with red fruits syrup and an elegant profile. It's the best aroma I've ever experienced. On the palate, I doubt I'll encounter anything as clean and delightful. It presents strawberries, sawdust, subtle sugar, and dates, with incredible figs. A second taste revealed prunes and tart fruits, including gooseberries and the expected sawdust. The finish is heavenly, with red berries, subtle sugar, hazelnut, sugar, and sawdust. It's a powerful, eternal finish that evokes a library, with notes of chocolate and red fruit. It's incredibly thick, enjoyable, and flawless. This experience is not a placebo; I'm not influenced by its age or cost. I've had older and rarer whiskies, but none like this. My previous favorite, a 26-year-old Hand Filled Glendronach I bottled in 2019, is now second. This 1971 Glendronach is the finest whisky I've ever tasted; every drop was magical. My rating is one million out of 100. Cheers!
