The Arran Malt Marsala Cask

The aroma is quite reserved, but with patience, one detects dry spices (nutmeg, anise, and a blend of others), ripe yet tart orange, and green mango. Pine cone is also present. The taste begins softly with some sweetness, but is soon followed by a fruity tartness and a pleasant alcoholic chili heat. Mature wood notes then emerge. Regrettably, adding water does little for the aroma but enhances some of the spices and fruity acidity on the palate. It doesn't truly elevate the experience. Therefore, use only a few drops and be cautious not to dilute it too much. Overall, it's merely an adequate whisky. It certainly possesses character but lacks vibrancy and smoothness. It's rather sharp and harsh. Furthermore, I'm uncertain what Marsala wine is meant to taste like, but I don't detect anything distinctive that could be attributed to this unique cask type. It cannot be a first or even second fill. However, that's likely because I don't know what to look for in the first place.
