Ten High Whiskey

Appearance: This former bourbon, now an American blend, had a light honey-gold hue. The legs were thin and quite oily. Nose: The aroma was generally quite faint. Notes detected included caramel, candy corn, fresh apple, and a musty storage closet added an odd, unusual scent. Taste: The palate was disappointingly bland. There was a whisper of cherry, a suggestion of oak, but primarily the oily texture and grain alcohol flavor were prominent. Finish: Not much stood out until a developing warmth and burn in the back of the throat, after which it faded into an almost sugary conclusion. Thoughts: It was alright; I'm glad I tried it, but I won't be recommending it. It might serve as a decent vodka substitute if you desired slightly more character (though I'm not a vodka drinker), but as a whiskey, I'm unimpressed. Here's to better products from this distillery! Ten High has an amber color, which was deeper than I anticipated. The smell includes wood, char, caramel, dried flowers, and a hint of dry, candied fruit. The taste features charred wood (stronger than expected), dried fruit, a little light brown sugar, some straight alcohol, and some corn. The texture is somewhat heavy, and Ten High has a lingering finish, but it's not overly sweet. A good value for $9.99 for a 750 ml bottle.

For only $8 a bottle, I truly anticipated this would be awful. However, I had heard that my late grandfather used to drink Ten High in the past, so I felt compelled to try it! To be completely honest, I still prefer this over black label Jack. The flavor isn't too bad, though it fades quickly on the palate. I've experienced much better, but I've also had significantly worse.

From the same distillery as VBO. It's slightly sweeter and has a bit less spice than Very Old Barton. It improves as the bottle is open longer. A good sipper, or just with one ice cube. Give it a try. It's priced affordably enough to get a small bottle. You can always add a mixer if you don't like it.

Ten High presents a clear, tan appearance with alcohol legs that form at even intervals. The scent consists of vanilla, sweet corn, and oak. The taste includes vanilla, sugar, corn, lightly-charred oak, and honeysuckle nectar. Ten High has a medium body and a finish that isn't too brief. - RJT

Considered very overlooked because of its low cost and plastic packaging. While this might not be genuine bourbon, it performs well. It has strong vanilla notes and goes down quite smoothly. It takes many shots of Ten High to cause a bad hangover, making it quite good.
