About this bottle

This limited edition American straight rye whiskey (95% rye, 5% malted barley) is the fourth offering in the brand's Cask Finish series, which debuted in 2019. After a minimum of six years in new, charred American oak barrels, the whiskey was transferred to casks that aged a chocolate coffee stout for an additional three months. It is sold at 92 proof and became available in November 2022 with a suggested retail price of $54.99.

Smell: tastes like strawberry candy, flat cherry cola… has hints of a kid's fruity toothpaste… honestly, this aroma is really strange and quite unpleasant. I detect almost no stout and all fruit. Hopefully, the taste is better than the smell. Taste: The stout character is apparent on the finish. Plenty of chocolate on the finish, which I enjoy… but the front and middle of the palate ruin this one. Once again, lots of fruity rye notes. Man, I really don't like this at all. If NyQuil were made with rye and chocolate, then diluted with water… this is what you'd get.

I don't think I'm a fan of bourbons finished in stout casks. You can notice it here, subtly but clearly. Otherwise, it's a good one.

Dark and rich. The stout barrel is a great idea. Absolutely delicious.

Anaya Thibodeaux 3.8

An interesting flavor. Not bad. I would purchase it if it were on sale.

Buddy Tolbert 3.5

A very smooth taste with prominent malt notes.

Anika Navarrete 4.0

Oak is present throughout, finishing with coffee and a pleasant warmth.
