Jill Phan 3.5

This was aged for 6-8 years in bourbon barrels and then finished for a year in Moscatel casks. The term RASI translates to badly burnt fuel, an old farming term. That's an unusual name for a whiskey; I'm uncertain if the intention is to lower expectations. This is the second whiskey from Scandinavia I've tried tonight, and I might have made a mistake by trying this 43% ABV dram after a cask strength one. It presents a distinct profile compared to typical Scotch or whiskies from other regions. I think I favored the younger Smögen, which had more character; this one was initially rather subdued. The distillery's site lists baked apple and oak as the only tasting notes. At first, I didn't detect much beyond that, but eventually, the sweet Moscatel notes emerge, with hints of citrus, spice, and raisins. I would rate it higher if not for a peculiar throat lozenge (like manuka honey) sensation and a brief finish.
