Teerenpeli Savu Single Malt

It has a lot of character. Peated and smoky, yes, but it's not an Islay single malt, and that's a good thing. What's been achieved here is genuine innovation, not imitation. Keep in mind that it's a young whisky, and I'm not factoring in the price, as it's produced under Finnish regulations. Something to consider if you (i) appreciate young Islay malts, (ii) are looking for something new, unexpected, and bold in that style, and (iii) can afford it.

Initially, smoke dominated the aroma, but it became smoother over time. The taste wasn't as smoky, but a distinct smokiness was present. The flavor also had a fruity component, though I couldn't identify it. The color was very light. The taste was smooth and well-rounded. A pleasant beverage. Note: This is among my initial experiences with whiskey, so the rating might be imprecise due to a lack of comparative options.

Opening this releases an intense smoky aroma, like a wildfire. It's difficult to discern other notes, except that it is exceptionally smooth and easy to drink.

The aroma and taste are very smoky. It has a nice light color and a pleasant aftertaste. This was my very first whisky where I genuinely tried to discern the subtle details in taste and smell.

The scent is a bit chemical with a hint of vanilla. It has a surprisingly smooth body for its age, with a smoky character. The aftertaste is dominated by smoke.

Very smooth and suitably smoky.
