The Diageo workhorse distillery is far from glamorous, so it's understandable that this Teaninich required a sherry cask finish. Slightly earthy and herbaceous, the nose suggests unripe citrus, sour cherries, and potato fritters. It's somewhat unusual, but the palate offers a significant improvement. Sherry-forward, peppery, and robust, the initial taste develops with raisins, peaches, and herbal notes. Drying oak spices, lemon zest, and red apples fade in a medium finish. It's certainly not a poor single malt, but my enthusiasm is tempered by the price. RATING: 3.5/5.0 stars ≙ 84 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE
