Tamnavulin Cabernet Sauvignon Edition

Here's another affordable scotch that comes in various finishes. The nose has berry fruit roll-up with some light barrel wood and a pinch of spice. It's quite understated and blend-like. The palate has red berry alongside some malt with a touch of baking spice and oak. It's not entirely thin but feels restrained. The finish is standard, with notes fading slowly, leaving a fruity malt. This is heavily influenced by the cabernet finish, masking the average-at-best new make. It's not bad, but I won't repurchase and won't try the other versions. I prefer the Glen Moray finished line as it's more characteristically Scotch; Tamnavulin is too heavily influenced by the cask......75/100...........ultimately it's a $30 single malt, so I enjoyed the bottle regardless, but there are better options available.

Nose: Malt, oak/wood, summer berries, vanilla, warm plastic Palate: Sweet. Dusty upfront, nutty, woody, summer fruit and berries, rose/floral notes. Finish: Medium finish. Fruit/berry jam, mild spiciness, liquorice. The aftertaste emphasizes the fruit compote notes and sweetness. This is a sweet and fruity dram. There’s a good amount of immediate dryness, a little spiciness, and hints of rose and liquorice. There’s a lot of youthful flavor, not necessarily complex, and not completely integrated, but tasty and easy to drink. Not bad at all.
