Talisker 35 Years Old 1977

A perfect score, every single time. That's what Talisker means to me. One of my recent write-ups on "noteworthy whiskies I encountered in Scotland" featured this incredible Talisker 35-year-old, from 1977 and bottled in 2012. This is a limited edition, seemingly quite scarce, with an alcohol content of 54.6%. Talisker ranks among my favorite distilleries, and this particular expression upholds that status. Now, let's dive in. On the nose: Wonderful Talisker peat. Toffee, Oranges, Pepper, Sea; A classic Talisker profile. Peat combined with sugar was intensely bold here. Bonfire, Ashes; The aroma became fully oceanic after the initial taste. On the palate, quite thin at first Then, a powerful surge of peaty, peppery, grassy peat. Oranges. Toffee. It's your quintessential Talisker. Chocolate undertones, reminiscent of a Snickers bar. The finish is also magnificent. A chocolatey conclusion with peat. Delightful. Like burning down a chocolate house with ashes. Haha. In summary, this is an immaculate pour. It tastes like any other Talisker but with an added layer of chocolate. Allow it some air; it spent 35 years in a cask, so it requires time to fully reveal itself. My rating is 100 OUT OF 100. Cheers to your health!!!

Nose: Incredible – it's as if you've been transported to the coast of the Talisker distillery with one whiff. Notes of oyster and its creamy texture, sea brine, a subtle hint of peat and smoke, and the scent of grass and almonds. You're essentially facing the ocean from the distillery. With water, more fruity notes like tangerine and grapefruit become apparent. Palate: While I prefer the nose, it's still excellent. Some licorice emerges, alongside continued peaty and salty notes. Hints of lemon zest and grapefruit are also present. Finish: Some woody notes appear, but it's primarily smoke and peat. Undoubtedly a very high-caliber Talisker, especially considering its price point; a superb showcase of the distillery's finest qualities.

This is the greatest whisky I've ever had; it's simply perfect.
