Chad Villarreal 4.8

Immediately a nose of dried plum and port. Intense, plum-like, dark fruit. Cloves with citrus. Maple. Plaster. Light, airy wood smoke. Sweet, rich nose. Turpentine. Hoisin sauce, a little savory undertone. Possibly some bitter chocolate. The palate has a savory quality. The prune-like sherry flavor is present, but it's diminished by a mellow, caramel-like wood note that is incredibly deep. Unlike anything I've experienced. Very rich, fatty but not coating the mouth. Spiced fruits/mulling spices. Maybe some spiced citrus. Thick like cough syrup. Licorice. Anise. Becomes syrupy as it develops on the palate. The finish is slightly savory. Prunes in syrup, a very faint hint of smoke. Perhaps a little herbal and sharp.
