Still Austin The Musician Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon

From SLB Drinks, 116 Proof, 58% ABV. Barrel #20191220-4, dumped on 11-29-2023. Aroma: Wow, that barrel! A very unique and bold funky oak note, reminiscent of a musty attic. Some bright red apples and pears come through, along with vinous notes. As it opens up, it reveals notes of chocolate-covered raisins mixed with leather. A slight hint of Red Hot cinnamon. Taste: A nice balance of herbal, floral, and candied sugar notes. Caramel apples and honey towards the back of the palate. Smoke on the finish. Overall: This is certainly a distinctive whiskey. However, its youthfulness is apparent, and in my opinion, it doesn't drink like a cask strength spirit. The finish isn't very long, the viscosity is minimal, and the proof is not very noticeable. It strongly reminds me of Chattanooga Tennessee Whiskey (which is also 2 years old). Worth the purchase? Not unless you have extra cash or are seeking something unique. It's definitely a try-before-you-buy if possible. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but for $70 on a 2-year-aged whiskey is quite steep. It drinks more like a $50-$60 bottle in my honest opinion.

I acquired a visually appealing Bourbon bottle named Still Austin, a limited edition single barrel expression bottled at cask strength, 58% ABV. The nose initially presents a Bloody Mary cocktail note, similar to a Hudson Baby Bourbon from New York, followed by tree tomato and bubblegum. Red fruits are also present. The palate begins with red fruits and herbal notes reminiscent of garnishes used in Mojitos. It has a beautifully sour quality. The finish consists of classic sour mash notes found in good bourbons, with hints of tobacco, cigars, spices, and herbs. Overall, this is a highly enjoyable bourbon. Despite its 58% ABV, it doesn't feel overly alcoholic. I would repurchase it for its aesthetic appeal alone, as the spirit itself is good, but I'm unlikely to remember it distinctly. My rating is 84 out of 100.

Aroma: Musty oak, floral, chocolate, and a bright fruit note. Taste: Caramel, cherry, black pepper, and leather. The finish is long, with a battle between vanilla and baking spice. It's very sweet but balanced by the leather and spice notes. Overall: I'm a big fan of this whiskey. As with my previous review, I'm incredibly impressed, especially given the minimum 2-year age statement. However, I believe the Texas heat accelerates the aging process, and the team at Still Austin has done an excellent job with grain selection. I would highly recommend it.

An intense, Cask Strength, Single Barrel, Straight Bourbon Whiskey made in Texas with local grain. The mash bill is 70% white corn, 25% rye, and 5% malted barley. It was aged for at least 2 years in American white oak barrels and bottled at 116 proof. The aroma has notes of grain, wood, nuts, and baking spices. The rich body adds notes of butterscotch, brown sugar, and pecan pie, leading to a long, spicy, hot finish with oak and cinnamon. September 2023.

Nose: Herbal, fruity, dense, and spicy. Wonderfully floral, fruity, and sweet - a fantastic aroma. Palate: Very, very herbal. A slight hint of fruit and vanilla. Some spiced woody notes with a bright character. Finish: The finish features cinnamon and wood, with a touch of light brown sugar at the end.
