This barrel selection was made by a friend from New York. Following a previous successful Knob Creek barrel selection, he was encouraged by many in the bourbon community to undertake another. He collaborated with Staves & Grain for this 7-year rye pick, and he once again excelled. I truly regret not buying more than one bottle because it is exceptional. It offers all the beloved MGP rye characteristics. The team at S&G, along with this individual, demonstrate excellent barrel selection skills. The aroma is classic, delicious aged MGP rye. I'm a great admirer of a good MGP rye, and this one smells wonderful. While not quite as good as the GTS in terms of scent, it ranks in my top 5. I compared them side-by-side with the GTS, and I honestly prefer the flavor of this one slightly over the GTS. The aroma clearly favors the GTS, but this is an outstanding rye, both spicy and sweet. The 119.2 proof is spot on. I am truly enamored with this bottle. They say to share special bottles with friends, and this was a special bottle I shared with some friends I've known for 20-30 years. Even those who aren't typically whiskey drinkers found this whiskey amazing. Kudos to the individual responsible for this barrel pick. The photo shows myself and three long-time friends who also know the individual who made the barrel selection.

Received a blind sample from an acquaintance - spearmint on the nose. The palate is full of baking spices. The finish is medium in length - it lingers but doesn't overstay its welcome. It strongly resembles a specific rye whiskey. Excellent - well above average.
Selected by Wine & Whiskey Cellars: Notes of cherry, caramel, rye spice, and a viscous mouthfeel (4.5/5) Selected by NJ Yacht Club: Slightly more drying, still very good (4.25/5)
Sweet honey, licorice, peppery rye, and dried tea. The end offers a mild spice and a touch of alcohol burn I could do without.
A local barrel selection. Honey, berries, anise, and a rye spice finish. It seems older than 7 years.
