Starlight Single Barrel Huber's Rickhouse Select Indiana Bourbon

Tasting Notes: This is a single barrel selection from Antioch Liquors. It's 113 proof and aged 4.5 years. I tasted it neat in a glencairn glass and then with 3 drops of water. Keep in mind that single barrels will vary. Nose: An inviting aroma of caramel and plenty of oak. It has a traditional bourbon scent, not overly complex, but well-executed. Palate: Right away, I notice sweet corn and oak. These two are very distinct, with little transition between them, and they don't quite blend together. It's not bad, but a little disconnected. Caramel and vanilla cream come through next, with a hint of smokiness. Overall, it's a decent sip, but nothing truly outstanding for me. Finish: Newer oak dominates. It has a pleasant mustiness, but a bit too much ethanol at the end. Overall: This needs more time aging in the barrel! All the components are present but haven't fully integrated, as shown by the corn liquor flavor clashing with the oak on the palate. I'm a big fan of Starlight and absolutely love their rye. However, I think bourbon requires more time than younger rye might tolerate. This is evident here. I'm really hoping they've held back some barrels for a 6-8 year offering, as that would definitely be worth the price. Keep an eye on this Indiana grain-to-glass distillery because they are doing things right! They're just not quite there yet with their 4-5 year old bourbon.

Selected by Bourbon Lens, barrel #1733. It has a beautiful dark color with some warmth on the nose. Flavors of sweet dark fruit, molasses, and subtle hints of tobacco are present. The alcohol content is noticeable throughout but does not detract from the overall character. The rich, sweet fruit flavors linger on the palate long after swallowing. Considering the purchase price, this is an excellent value. At the standard price, I would not buy it again.

Nose: Starts with Caramel and then a little cinnamon - big brown sugar notes at the end Palate: Sweet sugary notes followed by hints of oak Finish: Short to medium finish - slightly less heat than you would expect from a 114 proof An excellent pour with enough complexity to keep it enjoyable all the way through. Looking forward to trying some of the other Starlight offerings.

This was a special barrel selection from r/bourbon. It's smooth and sweet initially, with abundant toffee, praline, and vanilla flavors at the forefront, followed by just the right touch of spice to complement the tastes. There's nothing overly complex here, just a very well-rounded bourbon. If you enjoy sweeter bourbons that aren't excessively sweet, this is an excellent option.

I brought this to a Bourbon Share event during a recent camping trip. These gatherings have become a regular part of our family campouts!! This bottle was a hit. Great aroma, mouthfeel, flavors, and a mild finish. It wasn't highly complex, but it was a very enjoyable drink. Batch 0227.

Smells like: Mixed berries, cola, white pepper, caramel popcorn, and candy. Taste: Full-bodied, sweet, spicy, with some heat. It's well-balanced and leaves a tingle on the tongue with round flavors. Finish: A pleasant experience with a nice lingering sensation. It's not complex, but it's an enjoyable blend of sweet and spice.
