Selected by Barrel Nation. Barrel number FB233-2, 104.8 proof, aged 4.5 years. Subtle heat on the aroma, followed by oak and grape-like fruit. The taste initially tingles my tongue, then rich bourbon fruit notes follow swiftly. A fleeting nutty funk appears at times, but it's predominantly fruit and oak. It's not aggressively hot, but considering the proof, it's surprisingly lively on the palate, reminiscent of some ryes I've sampled (I double-checked the bottle; it's a bourbon). The grapey fruit from the finishing barrel is quite pleasing. It can become somewhat astringent after a few sips.
