Starlight Carl T. Huber's Cigar Batch Bourbon Finished in Brazilian Amburana Barrels

Tasting notes: This sample is 2 oz neat, a Binnys Single Barrel pick at 111 proof, served in a glen cairn glass. Nose: Cinnamon stick, a hint of ethanol, and vanilla cream cheese frosting. Palate: Cinnamon candy, vanilla frosting, and fresh baked pastry dough. It's like a Cinnabon! The only drawback is it's a bit too strong initially, but a few drops of water quickly mellow it. The texture is creamy and luxurious. Finish: Long and spicy. The Cinnabon flavor transitions into hot tamale candies. Overall: Truly distinctive! I haven't encountered a finished bourbon quite like it. If you're seeking traditional bourbon characteristics, this isn't it. Starlight has achieved something entirely new here. Typically, their finished bourbons seem young, with the finishes masking that. This one, however, is transformed into something unique and complementary. Overall, a very positive experience. Traditional bourbon enthusiasts will likely find it unsuitable. Exploratory whiskey aficionados will discover it to be one of a kind. I'm undecided on this one.

Exceptional and unique. The nose presents an incredible and distinctive experience that will challenge your ability to describe it. Notes of cherry, apple strudel, rum, and ash. It's fruit-forward yet evokes the scent of a grandfather's tobacco pipe. The palate is very accessible. Unique and complex without being excessively strong. Smooth vanilla at the start, with lingering complexity and spice at the end that will encourage another taste. Echoing the nose, a subtle hint of smoke and ash remains. One of the more distinctive bottles in my collection. Fantastic value.

The nose is very sweet, with caramel, a touch of citrus, cinnamon, and dried fruit. The taste is superb, featuring very sweet honey, dark chocolate, cinnamon, orange citrus, and a minty, almost menthol quality, bringing to mind an orange cough drop. Pairing it with a light cigar accentuates these flavors, particularly the sweetness and cinnamon. This ranks among my top 3. An outstanding bottle.

This is outstanding. I truly appreciate the amburana finish. While others are now adopting this approach, this company remains the originator for me. If you haven't sampled an amburana finish, you must try it. Thank you for this one!

A smooth, intense vanilla profile combined with apple rum and a cinnamon whiskey finish. Quite good, and surprising for its 4.5-year age. The aroma is wonderful, and it drinks much better than a young whiskey.
