About this bottle

This vodka, named St. Augustine Florida Cane Vodka, is produced from sugarcane grown locally in Florida. The distillery, which is cooperatively owned and managed, is situated in Florida's oldest ice factory. Unlike mass-produced vodkas, the distillation cuts are made manually, not by automated systems.

How are you unwinding from the week? I'm "decontaminating" my patience and mind with Batch 2 of St. Augustine Distillery's Sugar Cane Vodka. Originating from Florida, this pot distilled vodka is made with locally sourced sugarcane. I appreciate that their distilling cuts are done manually, they are a family-run company, and they renovated St. Augustine's original power and ice plant (from 1907) as their home. At 80 proof, the initial whiff is of light ethanol. It quickly diminishes, giving way to an earthy grassiness. It's not unpleasant at all. I am pleasantly surprised by the luxurious richness of this vodka. There is a faint hint of heat on my tongue, but I expected more. This vodka possesses a gently sweet citrus and vanilla quality that genuinely makes it enjoyable to sip neat. There's a subtle floral and peppery note that brings Nasturtiums to mind (did you know this common garden flower is edible?). The finish is remarkably absent in a good way. It vanishes immediately except for a slightly cooling cucumber aftertaste that makes me crave more. While I don't typically sip vodkas neat, I would enjoy using this in a quality martini. Its body and modest flavor profile make this vodka a good boozy blank canvas to create upon. 7.5/10

A crisp, Artisanal Vodka from St. Augustine Distillery in Florida, made with 100% Florida-grown sugar cane in a pot still. It has a delicate beginning with hints of cane, fruits, and herbs; while a full and semi-sweet middle adds hints of green apple, grass, anise, and molasses; leading to a quick and clean end with a touch of white pepper and vanilla. Vodka produced from sugar cane in St. Augustine, Florida. It's sweet and smooth with a hint of citrus and a bitter aftertaste. I find it suitable for highballs. Given the cost, I'm uncertain if I'd repurchase it, but it's worth trying a couple of times.

Lorelei Malcolm 3.5

This is exceptionally smooth and light. I expected it to be very sweet, but it has a similar "texture" and flavor profile to Tito's.

Kaia Woody 5.0

Perfectly balanced, sweet, single distilled with a pleasant sweet floral flavor unlike anything else available. A vodka for sipping.

Curt Clemens 3.0

Very thick and sugary. Somewhat sharp. Picks fights at tailgates when gulped.
