I appreciate this one. The nose is refined and clean, with a hint of Springbank's characteristic funk, featuring fresh cream and slightly underripe bananas on a haystack – it fills the olfactory senses. The 51% ABV likely maximizes this dram's potential, leading to a powerfully intense finish. Adding a bit of water transforms it into a more widely appealing scotch, revealing a mango-like sweetness that masks some of the herbal qualities present in its natural state. I'm pleased the rum cask doesn't dominate this scotch, only contributing a subtle tropical note to a very malt-forward expression with good oils for palate adhesion. Overall, it's something understatedly distinctive (even within the unique Springbank range), which will be enjoyable to explore as the bottle is consumed. The drawbacks are the price and a less intense flavor profile on the palate compared to the nose and finish. However, it's still very cool. Rating scale: 5.0 - Purchase all available stock immediately. 4.0 - Definitely acquire at least one bottle. 3.0 - Solid, must try at a bar or sample from a friend. 2.0 - Didn't enjoy it, but you might. 1.0 - Your palate is as refined as my dog's, and he's particularly fond of his own hindquarters.

A message of hope during these times. The aroma was rich with mint, spearmint, basil, and pine needles. On the finish, citrus fruits like lemon and orange appeared, alongside tropical notes of pineapple and coconut. The palate offered caramel, dark chocolate, buttered popcorn, and white pepper, all grounded by a foundation of ashy peat smoke. The finish was long, featuring espresso, mocha, toffee, and honey notes. A complex yet accessible scotch. The only potential drawback is a feeling of disconnect; the nose and palate seem separate, unlike a well-structured meal. However, the quality of each component is exceptional. The cost for a sample is high, but it represents a true artisan experience from Springbank. The character of this dram is somewhat haphazard yet skillfully executed, akin to 'Cirkus' by King Crimson.

Aroma presents as sharp, acidic, with mild oak tannin, some citrus, and sweeter notes. It reminds me of a sugar cane and Springbank blend. The aroma lacks significant depth or complexity; it's pleasant but not compelling. Taste features initial notes of banana, pineapple, and a rum-like citrus fruit. There's also some salt, light peat, and a funky malt. The beginning of the taste is also not very complex. However, the spirit evolves to reveal espresso (like a Kona blend), deep, well-aged oak, light white chocolate, and possibly a cinnamon roll glaze. The overall experience progresses from sweet and light to intricate dark oak and espresso notes, all within the classic Springbank funk and earthy character. This is an incredibly complex and nuanced spirit. Regrettably, I'm rating it a 3.5 because the aroma is too simple and frankly poor. It's a 2.0 aroma on a 4.0 spirit, so we'll find a middle ground.

The nose has a blend of sweet and smoky scents, reminiscent of toasted coconut and s'mores. On the palate, the toasted coconut evolves into a sweeter honeysuckle. This then smoothly shifts to a richer, caramelized banana custard flavor, with hints of smoke and oak.

A floral, grassy scent leads to notes of honey and dark fruit. The taste is engaging due to its dryness and bitterness, yet the familiar dark fruit and honeyed character of the classic 12-year-old Springbank remains.

Vanilla icing on the aroma, a touch of peat, vanilla, orange spice, and nutmeg. The finish lingers with rum and allspice.
