Variations between batches should be celebrated, showcasing a whisky differently each year. An interesting nose presents itself, with plums, ginger, and hints of a dunnage warehouse mingling with lemon zest, bay leaves, and subtle peat smoke. Orange zest, pepper, and herbal peatiness accompany a bold arrival, highlighting spicy, bitter, and sour notes. Adding water reveals sweet flavors of milk chocolate, marmalade, and peach. Citrus fruits, walnuts, and black salsify remain in the satisfying finish. A good batch of Springbank 12, but not an exceptional one. RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 88 pts → FIRST-CLASS
