About this bottle

A single malt from Scotland's Speyside region, this expression is unpeated. It is aged in American oak and then finished in ex-sherry casks.

This Scotch is quite harsh. I've never been a big fan of the Spey River brand. This version presents the typical vanilla and malt notes, with a hint of caramel, but it's overwhelmed by an unpleasant sherry taste. The only positive aspect is a smooth finish; however, the flavor profile is lacking. Among all the Spey Rivers, I find this one the most palatable. It's a whiskey that presents a decent challenge, but I personally would not purchase it.

Aroma: Sugary banana custard. Prunes. Dried apricots. Hints of fruit. The sherry cask's influence is apparent. Palate: Mirrors the aroma. Pronounced banana custard flavor. Fruity. So velvety and rich, one might imagine a dollop of whipped cream. The taste fades fast. A little warmth in the chest lingers.

Diane Mack 4.0

Very smooth, highly sippable for the alcohol content. There's a saline quality alongside the prominent oak notes. A delightful and effortless drink.

Mateo Calloway 2.8

For what it costs, it's not great. It goes down pretty easy, but the taste just isn't there. Don't expect anything like Macallan's sherry profile; it's not present in this.

Betty Nagel 3.5

A solid scotch for your daily dram. It goes down smoothly, without harshness, balancing peat and sherry notes. While not top-tier, it offers good value for the cost.

Cherry Graham 3.5

An acceptable scotch. Similar to every other cask-finished scotch I've encountered, I don't really detect the sherry characteristics.
