Their Smugglers' Notch Straight Bourbon Whiskey is created using a mash bill comprising corn, rye, and malted barley. Following aging in new, charred American oak barrels, it is bottled at a strength of 90 proof.

Tasted neat in a glencairn glass - Sweet with a pleasant long finish. Not much burn from this easy sipper. Flavors of leather and oak. Quite good for a local craft spirit. Stated age of at least 4 years. I would be interested to taste it at barrel proof to better understand the original flavor. Batch 5 / Bottle 1074 / Dated 2014
Vanilla on the nose; oak and tannins after an initial sweetness with corn flavor; finishes with spices like a young bourbon; overall smooth and straightforward, lacking depth and any hidden nuances to discover; light, not creamy smooth.
Wheaty and perfumed on the nose. Smells stronger than its stated proof. Wonderful caramel flavor greets the palate first, followed by a softer floral note. Very warming and smooth. Only a slight burn down the throat and in the stomach.
Aroma: Sweet corn, vanilla, oak, nuts, and rye spices. Palate: Vanilla and caramel with strong nutty and rye notes. Finish: Warm with a medium length. A solid 90-proof spirit with traditional bourbon flavors.
Maple syrup and bourbon aren't usually a pair... But this one is different. My smoke test confirms its authenticity - this bourbon is delightful down to the final sip. 😏👌
Appearance: Resembles light golden amber syrup. Aroma: Leather, butterscotch, spicy, with a hint of floral. Taste: Maple syrup, butter, light oak, sweet, and slightly tangy. Finish: Long and tingly. Very enjoyable.
