Smooth Ambler Contradiction 92 Proof

One of the initial bottles acquired based on a shop attendant's suggestion. Opened for approximately five months, with over a third consumed. Nose (3.75): A delightful, yet subtle aroma. Initially, it's like sweet honey poured over berries. After a few sips, it shifts to sugared oak with berry notes in the background. Palate (3.5): Honey-covered berries are prominent upfront, followed by vanilla and oak in the middle to back of the palate, with a couple of dashes of spice. The flavors diminish with each subsequent sip. It's easy to drink, just not compelling enough for deep analysis. Finish (3.5): A light trace of oak and vanilla lingers. No warmth, just a tiny bit of spice. It doesn't amaze, but it's pleasant. I suggest this as a beverage for gatherings; it's enjoyable without demanding full attention.

[2.3.2025] I typically review a spirit on the first tasting. However, this bottle has been on my shelf for over a year. It was a Christmas present in 2023 from my brother-in-law. So much for agreeing not to exchange gifts. This turned out to be a worthwhile present. I finished the bottle tonight, and if there was ever a bourbon perfect for a sweet, strong old fashioned... this is it. No adjustments needed. Just syrup, cherries, orange peel, and a double shot over ice. My initial tastings were unremarkable. But this grew on me - less spicy than I anticipated and with more sweet undertones, which led me to look for another bottle to keep in stock.

This Flaviar bottle is from 06/2022, but I'm just getting around to opening it! Batch number 463, bottled by Chris. The pour is appealing and mellow. The color is a lovely medium amber. The aroma is incredible - caramel notes with strong rye spice and mint, along with some licorice. The first sip is very buttery and exceptionally smooth. Notes of chocolate, butterscotch, buttery vanilla, almonds, and hints of cherry and banana are present. Very sweet with a pleasant, mild spice. This one is outstanding and highly recommended! Refreshingly unique and definitely worth it!

Aroma - banana bread, cherry juice, cake frosting, peach, and orange. Abundant fruit. I'm truly enjoying this as it airs out. Taste - it's quite pleasant. Very similar to the aroma. Banana bread, cherries, and the frosting reappear. There's a slight spicy kick on the finish that rounds everything out, and the alcohol is noticeable. Short to medium finish. Overall - this is a good quality pour for $30. Worth trying.

A great value bourbon that is easy on the wallet. The aroma is nicely spiced with classic rich maple sweetness. The taste mirrors the nose with a pleasant spicy palate. The finish is brief and a little thin after an initial burst. It's agreeable and a worthwhile addition at a good bottle cost and lower proof for effortless sipping.

Overpowering grainy notes, reminiscent of walking through a field of tall grass. Medium sweetness and medium smoothness. I can't pinpoint the exact flavor, but it evokes memories of strolling down cobblestone streets in Quebec and Montreal. It softens considerably with a bit of ice! A very pleasant peppery/grainy finish.
