Siesta Key Toasted Coconut

I must admit, my knowledge of rum is limited, so take this assessment with a grain of salt. However, after reading local store reviews, I purchased this as a post-dinner 'dessert' – I adore coconut. It has a distinct flavor and aroma. Do you know what I dislike? Chocolate. (Yes, some find me peculiar.) Neither the nose nor the palate delivered any coconut from this bottle. Honey on the nose and chocolate on the palate. Did I receive a faulty bottle? Unsure, but I won't repurchase. It's not that it's bad, but I'd prefer something else. I'll manage this bottle neat or on ice, but I'm let down by the reality compared to my expectations. It's only a $19 bottle, so not a financial disaster, but also not what I had hoped for.

Fruity, Toasty and Sweet: Consider yourself warned, only purchase this if you desire a flavored spirit. I wouldn't typically drink neat pours of this from a rocks glass. This smells and tastes like toasted coconut and chocolate. The spirit is surprisingly substantial for a flavored spirit, but you can discern it's not completely refined. If you're looking for a coconut rum, this is a good one. I won't be drinking neat pours of this, but it will mix easily and allow for simple cocktails when you want something straightforward. There's a time and a place for everything.

I don’t typically go for rum, but this local offering caught my attention. Butterscotch and vanilla dominate the aroma. The taste is quite sweet and smooth, featuring notes of brown sugar and coconut. A lengthy finish with hints of dark molasses concludes a satisfying beverage.

My wife enjoys a Malibu Bay Breeze. This, as the rum component, is far superior (obviously) to Malibu. The 'toasted' characteristic provides a hint of burnt marshmallow flavor that other spirits, like Brinley Shipwreck, lack.

Butterscotch, vanilla, chocolate. I suspect this is what toasted coconut in rum tastes like, as I didn't detect any raw coconut flavor. Still incredibly tasty! Sweet, rich, and potent.

The aroma is coconut, vanilla, and cake. Quite sweet on the tongue; like coconut and vanilla ice cream. Overly sweet on its own, but it should be great for making fun tiki drinks.
