Brugal XV Rum

Aromas of honey, brown sugar, and dried red berries, with less intense notes of cocoa and molasses. On the palate, a very smooth entry typical of the distillery, liquid cane sugar, warm and slightly diluted honey, and scattered berries. A slight increase in alcohol warmth follows, before woody and cocoa flavors conclude the experience. A sensation of citrus zest lingers in the background at the very end. The texture is silky but a bit light.

Not overly fruity or heavy. Close to a Bourbon. It mixes well but is a bit too bitter for sipping neat. It's possible, though, if you appreciate that kind of bitterness. The bitterness resembles orange peels and tobacco, as mentioned in the description. I haven't smoked cigars in a while, but I imagine this would pair well with one.

Not a preferred choice... Lacks any sweetness... Tastes quite like a whiskey to me... Dry and has a noticeable burn... Alcohol aroma is strong on the nose for a rum at 37% ABV... Fruity, Woody, and smoky... Works well as a mixer when combined with something sweet... Definitely not for sipping.

Acquired a bottle at the Puerta Plata airport recently for $15. Exceptional value for the price, neat, over an ice cube, or with ginger ale makes a great all-around drink. Fruity and rich. From a friend.

Orange with a touch of honey sweetness. A brief wisp of smoke that vanishes quickly. A distinct orange aftertaste.

The 40% ABV version. It bears a strong resemblance to Doorly's XO, though it's slightly less full-bodied, it still retains a pleasant fruitiness.
