Sekk Sato Shiki Single Grain Japanese Whisky

Day No. 5 I was happy to find out this was made in Japan. I've been enjoying Japanese whiskey a lot lately. Although this is my least preferred one so far, I found the unique tasting experience to be engaging. The scent offered a strong woody/oak essence, as if my nose was right against a freshly cut plank. There was also a faint sweetness. This all carried over into the flavor profile with nutty and flowery undertones. The conclusion was brief and somewhat dry. A little warmth was present overall.

A sophisticated Japanese Single Grain Whisky made with 88% Koshihikari rice and 12% malted barley. It was matured in a combination of White Oak, Spanish Oak, and Sherry Casks before bottling at 43% ABV. It features notes of grains, woods, fruits, nuts, herbs & spices. A robust and bold character contributes notes of Koshihikari rice, caramel, and honey, along with Sherry; leading to a warm and balanced finish of medium duration with hints of oak, vanilla, roasted almonds, and a trace of smoke.

Oak is prominent on the nose with floral hints. The taste is gentle and sweet, featuring caramel, vanilla, and a touch of honey. A subtle char smoke note is also present. This is a very mellow drink. The finish is brief. It could be a pleasant everyday pour.

The initial aroma has notes of smoky oak, strong corn, and floral scents. The first sip has warm notes of nutty vanilla and honey, followed by a smoky spice that lingers with a metallic pepper finish.

I haven't had many Japanese whiskies, and I'm not sure this one would make me want to try more. It's just funky and what I'd call toasty at the end, with an almost burnt flavor.

Advent #5. Appearance: clear golden body, medium legs. Aroma: bready, spicy honey. Flavor: spicy, nutty honey. Body: medium-light, fairly mild, warming. Score: 8/4/8/4/15. Overall rating: 3.9.
