Esteemed individuals, this is the kind of whisky experience one cherishes. A well-balanced, rich, and superb whisky. Often, drinking Talisker evokes a sense of something exceptional having occurred. Today, I had the opportunity to taste a whisky distilled in 1955 and bottled in 2005, a 50-year-old scotch from the Isle of Skye, home to only one distillery: Talisker. This particular spirit began as new make on May 27th, 1955, and matured in a sherry cask (number 1312) for five decades. It's a Talisker spirit. Or perhaps a "mystery still" spirit, if you prefer. Bottled at 45% ABV, it displays a very deep, aged oak color. Magnificent. The aroma was not flawless but was beautiful. Sherry, Heather, Lemon, Starfruit, Leather, Red fruits, Oranges, Caramel. Peat is present as a heather note. Scored 23/25. The palate was SUBLIME. I held my first sip in my mouth for at least a minute without swallowing. It was an explosion of perfectly balanced, utterly delightful flavors. Red fruits, Strawberry, Pepper, refined Oak, Heather. ASTOUNDING QUALITY. Possibly the best I've ever had. Scored 25/25. The finish was simply outstanding. Tobacco, Dry grass, so refined and balanced. Incredible oakiness, ginger, Ashy. It lasted eternally. The longest finish ever. I experienced it in my mouth for at least 10 minutes before it completely faded. A perfect score. In summary, this is the kind of dram that defines perfection. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest spirits I have encountered. While I expect it's extremely expensive (around $2,200), I received a sample from a friend, and every drop is a marvel. My scoring system indicates 98, but who cares about scoring systems? THIS IS A PERFECT 100 OUT OF 100. A FLAWLESS SCORE. May the spirit be with you. Cheers!
