Secret Speyside 1990 30 Year Old #Twj-Gl-1990, from The Whisky Jury

I've recently been exploring the fascinating realm of independent bottlers. I encountered this remarkable dram, known as Secret Speyside 1990 vintage, 30 Year Old, from "The Whisky Jury". It's always special to drink a whisky distilled during one's childhood. Bottled at 46.6% ABV, it presents a deep copper hue. The nose is incredibly complex, brimming with aromatic notes. Sweet pecans, cinnamon spice, hazelnut, vanilla powder, and aged apples are present. It's akin to a fried apple pie with cinnamon. A lovely, dark, and fruity aroma. It also offers a great fresh gooseberry scent with hints of honey and cereal. It reminds me of cider. Highly complex, with aromas unfolding in layers. After an initial taste, a note of salt crackers topped with dulce de leche emerges. Caramel and abundant cinnamon are noticeable. It's fruity yet primarily spicy. Quite sweet. Coconut notes appear after five minutes. Butterscotch and cooked pineapple are also detected. Truly an exceptionally complex nose. On the palate, it is delightful. Toffee and almonds are the initial flavors. A touch of saltiness emerges after a few seconds. It's very easy to drink. Cooked pineapple and cooked green apples are present. Very clean. A second taste reveals caramel with a sawdust note; it's actually a bit too oaked. It has a fruity character, but it feels like the fruit skins. Honey appears on the third sip, very appealing – a truly nice dram. Apricots are also detected. It leaves a smoky and hay-like aftertaste, completely different from the aroma and nose. Very, very dry. A long, woody finish. It's intensely oaked; I haven't encountered such an oaky dram in a while. It dries out your tongue; the sawdust sensation is quite potent. The third taste brings an incredible ashy flavor and salt. It is definitively peaty. Overall, this was a fantastic dram, highly recommended if you can find it. My speculation is that this single malt is a Glenfarclas amplified. I rate this beautiful whisky 97 out of 100.
