The aroma isn't overpowering but is noticeable with sharp spice, unpleasant bread notes, some mild earthiness, a hint of vegetation, and sweet tropical fruit like banana, mango, and possibly pineapple. The palate is surprisingly spicy, reminiscent of jalapeño – it genuinely carries that jalapeño flavor. It has a fairly sweet, fruity undertone of mango with pineapple and a bit of banana. It almost resembles a margarita variation on its own. The earthiness blends well with the jalapeño, bringing out a hint of that specific brand's tobacco smoke as well. There's actually quite a bit happening here, and it doesn't really taste like unpleasant bread. It's notably numbing, though. Some minerality emerges, and it's a bit light for an aged tequila, but well within acceptable limits. This is a clear improvement over that other brand's blue offering: it has less alcohol, more character, and less of an ashtray taste. It's very fruity, though. It's comparable to another brand, but slightly bolder in style. It lacks the richness and variety of a different brand, though it doesn't take the same risks in combining its flavors. It certainly tastes light for a reposado, and it turns out it is, as it only ages for 2 months.

About this bottle
Hornitos Reposado Tequila, meaning "rested," spends two months aging in large, 10,000-gallon vats known as pipones, resulting in a pale straw hue. This tequila is produced from 100% agave and undergoes a double distillation process: first in a column still, then in a stainless steel pot still.

It's not sophisticated, but it doesn't try to be. It feels familiar, delivering warmth and a touch of sweetness, followed by a sharpness that reminds you you're alive. This is especially true when taking shots, whether you're alone or with company. It has a hint of smoke and a touch of wildness. It goes down easily but leaves a lingering bite, like an urge to text someone you know you shouldn't. Ideal for late nights, questionable choices, and memorable tales. On a side note, I see this as more of a drink for introverts, or for enjoying with a partner or a close friend. That's my perspective. It's genuinely a fantastic option for margaritas.
I'm not knowledgeable about Tequila so I won't assign a rating; I purchased it for a cultural event and because I had a margarita recently and wanted another one. It's salty, with that bitter cactus/agave flavor. Now that I can handle the burn of a 40% dram, it's less intimidating than it was a year ago. The finish is bitter and tart citrus: lemon/lime. It's pleasant, and the salty tartness leaves a nice pucker.
Our household's preferred Tequila for Margaritas. We favor an earthy taste, so we often add a bit of Mezcal. We always prepare our Margaritas with unprocessed, organic agave nectar (diluted 50/50 with water) rather than simple syrup, for enhanced richness.
Reminds me a lot of El Jimador Reposado. It's got a nice sweet, roasted agave flavor but it's a bit rough around the edges with a decent spicy kick. Not terrible, but would be better for cocktails. Cost C$36 in Ontario.
Peppery and fruity... A great mid-tier tequila, and an incredible value for the price. It's excellent in a Margarita or an Old Fashioned... Or simply served on the rocks.
