An intense, dark rum from fourth-generation Cognac makers Jérôme & Lilian Tessendier, produced at their family distillery in France's Charente River Region. Saison Rum is a blend of rums from Barbados, Jamaica & Trinidad, subsequently matured in Cognac casks for 9-12 months. It presents an exotic origin with notes of pineapple and a subtle hint of toasted nuts; a nutty and sweet development contributes notes of peach, caramel, coconut & traces of Cognac; culminating in a fruity finish of moderate duration with red fruit and grape undertones. It smells sweet with caramel and spice, and a hint of smoke on the nose. It's not overly sweet initially, though some light caramel emerges. There's a noticeable alcohol presence, and the fireworks don't really stand out much. It's fairly light on the palate and a bit watery. None of the flavors are particularly prominent. It tastes acceptable but isn't exceptional. It seems a bit young and lacks complexity. It might taste like column still molasses.
Aged in Cognac barrels, it exhibits a touch of that character and taste.
