Elegant. (Imagine this tasting note with a British accent). This Special Royal Salute is said to be composed of just 88 casks chosen for their superior flavor. Its elegance made me feel as though I were at an opulent gathering, fit for a head of state and their esteemed company. Moving on to the specifics: As a blended Scotch whisky of such refinement, it's incredibly mild, exceptionally drinkable, and wonderfully smooth, designed for universal appeal. I doubt anyone would find fault with this spirit, though those who analyze whiskies might find it too uniform and uncomplicated. The aroma presents peat – a pungent yet delightful smokiness – alongside caramel. It resembles the standard Royal Salute, but the peat here is the earthy kind, not the perfumed variety. Not much else is present, nor is it needed. Comes in at 40% ABV with a deep amber hue. The palate is exquisitely beautiful and refined. You'd almost need to wear formal attire to appreciate it. Truly delightful, quite sweet, with notes of toffee, caramel, ginger, and a subtle woodiness, like newly crafted furniture. It lacks substance; its body is so delicate, it's akin to water. Very mellow. The finish is virtually nonexistent, which is its biggest drawback. While sipping this, I felt it was created for sophisticated individuals unfamiliar with whisky, enabling them to utter remarks like (in a posh accent), "Good heavens, what a superior and agreeable drink." However, an expert might deem it tasty but uninspired. Put simply, an average person will adore it. Someone like myself, a foolish self-proclaimed expert, will find it good but hardly groundbreaking.
