About this bottle

Following the 21-gun salute, the 62-gun salute is a rare honor bestowed at the Tower of London for significant Royal events like births or Queen Elizabeth II's birthday. The number 62 is derived from the standard 21-gun salute, an additional 20 for the Tower of London's status as a Royal Palace & Fortress, and a further 21 for the City of London. While this whisky is not 62 years old, the components of the blend are at least 40 years of age.

Jonathan Lackey 4.5

This is truly a premium spirit. Composed of whiskies aged at least 40 years, it glides across the palate like silk. A 62-gun salute is the ultimate celebratory gesture from British royalty, and this spirit earns its name from such grandeur. Even the lettering on the decanter is fashioned from 24-karat gold. On the nose, I detect rich chocolate fudge and fresh oranges. These aromas are significantly amplified after the first taste. On the palate, it might be the smoothest spirit I have ever encountered. Notes of macadamia nuts, dark chocolate, a Spanish dessert called "mil hojas" (which translates to "strudel" in English), and dulce de leche are present. It's incredibly sweet and sophisticated. An aftertaste reveals saltiness and hints of ginger spice. The finish is exceptionally long and satisfying. Overall, this is a magnificent dram. It is quite rare and commands a high price. A score of 95/100 or higher is fitting. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to taste it. Cheers!
