Alisha Rector

Excessively sweet, with a wine-like character that masks the pear flavor. When tried in a Seattle Southside, it was completely lost beneath the lemon juice. Similarly, in a Pear Elderberry Collins, it was also undetectable. By itself, it tasted like overly sweet wine with only the faintest hint of pear. As I strongly dislike wine, this liqueur was a profound letdown, given my fondness for pears. For my preferences, I believe I will stick to using pear nectar in cocktails for pear flavor and forgo pear liqueur. If you enjoy the taste of fermented fruit with minimal pear essence, this Orchard Pear Liqueur might suit your palate.

Very sweet, with a wine-like overtone that masks the pear flavor. Tried it in a Seattle Southside; it was completely lost under the lemon juice. Tried it in a Pear Elderberry Collins; also lost. On its own, it tasted like overly sweet wine with the faintest pear in the background. I dislike all wine, so this liqueur was a major letdown, as I love pears. For my taste, I think I'll just use pear nectar in cocktails to get the pear flavor and skip the pear liqueur. If you enjoy the taste of fermented fruit with very little pear flavor, this Orchard Pear Liqueur might be suitable for you.

It's very sugary, with a wine-like finish that drowns out the pear. I had it in a Seattle Southside; the lemon juice completely masked it. I also tried it in a Pear Elderberry Collins; it vanished again. By itself, it tasted like excessively sweet wine, with just a hint of pear appearing faintly. Since I can't stand any kind of wine, this liqueur was a major letdown, especially since I love pears. I'll probably stick to using pear nectar in drinks for that pear taste and avoid pear liqueur altogether. If you enjoy the flavor of fermented fruit with minimal pear notes, this Orchard Pear Liqueur could be a good choice for you.

A pleasant, moderate sweetness, consistent with all R&M fruit liqueurs, which is a significant advantage. Sugar can always be added to a cocktail through other ingredients; it's difficult to remove. The nose is mild, also typical. Initially, I'd say the pear flavor is disappointingly subtle, but I must remember that pears themselves are mild, so this might be an accurate representation. It's quite nice, actually, but best suited for intricate cocktails. It will easily be overwhelmed in anything too robust. As always, credit for using actual fruit eau de vie.
