I am uncertain about this rum. Perhaps I have an unusual bottle? The aroma offered some dark fruit notes, but it also had a peculiar funkiness, the source of which, whether oak or something else, is unclear. The palate was somewhat sweet, dry, and funky. A review of the 15-year mentioned olive oil notes, and I believe I detect a resemblance to an oily or waxy quality. The finish is enduring. A bit of water revealed more fruit flavors, but the funk persisted. Somewhat disappointing.

Even after waiting more than a year and a half since I first tried it, this rum has not gotten any better. The aroma was still unusual, and the taste had a distinct olive oil character. I'm putting this bottle away for good. This was a huge letdown, especially for something that cost $100.
