Rolling Standard Midwestern Four Grain Whiskey

Batch 15, stated as 18 months old. The deep chestnut color is immediately surprising. The aroma starts with rye and mint, then reveals much more: maple syrup, black cherry, banana, pecan pie, almond, and some smoke. The smell is fantastic, especially considering it's only 18 months old. On the palate, the youth shows with grassy notes and a noticeable alcohol burn, more than expected for its proof. Some of the aromas come through in the taste. Overall, it's very interesting. The smell is exceptionally unique and appealing, but its youth makes it just okay. I believe it could be amazing with 4-5 more years in the barrel. I've found this to be a great bottle for enjoying around a campfire due to its uniqueness, drinkability, and pleasant smoke note.

If I could identify the person responsible for this blend, I would offer them a warm embrace. An aroma of black currants and molasses, sorghum, and dark fruit. Followed by vanilla and caramel. Sweet and welcoming. The palate was equally impressive. Initial sweetness in balance with higher spice notes. The dark fruits detected in the nose also appeared on the palate. The finish followed suit, with a 45-60 second pause before that delightful fruit note returned.
