Rock Island Blended Malt

Nose: Potent, salt and slightly scorched rubber. Satisfying. Palate: Fairly smoky (reminiscent of Ardbeg), dry, burnt rubber, slightly bitter. Finish: Medium/short, pleasantly zesty. Gentle and soothing. Evokes tidal pools and overcast skies. Flavors of salt, seaweed, brine, pepper, peat, and pear. A subtle alcohol presence. The experience is brief. I haven't encountered a disappointing Douglas Laing bottling yet... Quite delightful. Unlike other island single malts I've sampled, this one is more understated and smooth. I wouldn't call it balanced, as it doesn't aim for lightness, but it certainly won't overwhelm you. If I faced a difficult choice, this is the one I'd select.

A salty aroma on the nose and an oily smokiness on the palate. Adding two drops of water enhances the nose with lemon and pepper, and the palate with honey and vanilla. It's well-balanced and enjoyable, though not particularly remarkable in any aspect.

Very pale in color. Nose: vibrant, seaside, smoke, fresh fruit. Palate: more smoke, medicinal, citrus. Body: light. Finish: enduring, warm, peppery, oak. Overall: reminiscent of the sea and smoke.

Nose: smoky, briny, spicy. Palate: smoke leads, then sweetness alongside. Faint spices. Finish: smoke, pepper, sweetness. Licorice? Perhaps.

Received this in an advent calendar. Smoky grapefruit on the nose. Pleasant, sweet on the palate. A bit of a bitter, dry finish. Prominent oak notes.
