Rio Brazos Single Barrel

Bottle 108, 62.1% ABV. A short-lived caramel and vanilla, followed by strong waves of oak, char, cherry wood, and touches of brown sugar. The finish is a bit hot but features plenty of baking spice and oak towards the end. Texas whiskey can be inconsistent for me, but this was quite good for the price ($46 with my case discount). For a single barrel at that proof, I was pleasantly surprised. And even more surprisingly, I think it's excellent on ice. I have no problem supporting a Texas distillery that uses a rye-free mash bill. Recommended for lovers of all things wheat.

Aroma: char, smoke, sweet Flavor: char, oaky, smoky, sweet Aftertaste: medium, long char finish It has a slight burn and a considerable amount of char, as might be expected from Texas bourbon. However, it also exhibits sweetness. My initial purchase of this was exceptional; however, this current bottle, aged eight months longer, has absorbed too much from the barrel. Nevertheless, I appreciate the distillery's efforts, and as I mentioned, the first bottle was outstanding. I will try it again with the next release. Note: age is 32 months

Floral notes, honeysuckle, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, and dark cherries. It's delightful.
