Beckham Austin 3.3

Rating: 15/23. This possesses a really agreeable palate with some richness, pine bitterness, peppery spice, a notable amount of floral sweetness, and a touch of citrus. It's quite well-balanced without significant drawbacks and is quite clean. The complexity is very subtle, and there's a hint of alcohol that causes a bit too much burn. I would readily choose this as a good inexpensive gin for mixing or even sipping occasionally. It has less alcohol presence than Dover Strait. It's more floral, balanced, and complex. Dover Strait is richer with a more standard pine flavor. Dover is a safer choice for any cocktail that will mask the gin's flavor, but this is better suited for a cocktail like a Manhattan that emphasizes the gin's profile. Dover tastes slightly off by comparison. It has less citrus and is less assertive than Beefeater, but shares a similar floral sweetness, so I'd consider the two of comparable quality. Given the price difference, I would likely stock my well with this. 14 to 15.

Peyton Clement 3.0

The aroma is quite potent. There's an alcoholic burn, otherwise it smells light with notes of pine and a touch of earthiness. The palate is surprisingly interesting and decent. It presents an earthy, bitter profile with even a hint of cocoa. It's dry and herbaceous with pine and another distinct flavor. It's quite peppery, with a bit of harshness, but the pepper is a clear and rather pleasant taste. A twist of lemon is also present. It's fairly rich with a pleasing savory (but not meaty) earthiness. I actually quite enjoy this. It's not amazing, but it's superior to Dover. There's just a hint of sweetness. The alcohol is still noticeable, but this is a surprisingly good gin. I'm detecting a subtle floral note as well. It's more savory and less citrusy than Beefeater, with less harshness. Between the two, I think I'll choose this one. Yes, it's a solid gin. What more can I say?
