Redwood Empire Screaming Titan Wheated Bourbon

Nose: Hints of peach skin and yellow butterscotch candies, along with a sweet pie crust, almost like peach cobbler – some might perceive a yeasty quality akin to pizza dough. A very pleasant and crisp aroma. Palate: Tastes like peach cobbler with vanilla icing and a touch of candy corn. The slight waxiness is intriguing. It's fruity and a very enjoyable sip, though a slight bitterness emerges at the end that could be omitted. Finish: Medium length with a subtle hint of nutmeg. Overall: A very good 4-grain wheated bourbon! The minor bitterness near the finish might indicate some youth in the whiskey, and it's the one element that could be improved. The peach cobbler flavor was excellent. A higher proof, perhaps even cask strength, would likely elevate it significantly. The lower proof might have slightly muted some of the appealing fruit and pie crust notes. Redwood Empire has done commendable work, producing solid bourbon and rye. This 4-grain wheated bourbon is a testament to their product line. The $80 price tag for a non-barrel-proof offering is a bit steep. Is it worth that? No. At $60, however, it would stand out among many competitors.

BATCH 002 - Tasted neat. NOSE: Honey, Strawberries, and Red Apples. PALATE: The palate is smooth and welcoming. It's very fruity, with strawberries being the most prominent flavor, complemented by honey. While not complex, it's well-balanced and smooth. The absence of oak on the palate is a welcome change. FINISH: Lasts a medium amount of time. The strawberry flavor continues through the finish, with hints of vanilla and red apple. WORTH BUYING? - While I think the suggested retail price of $80 is about $20 too high, this is a very nice wheated bourbon from a distillery I highly admire. I still endorse this product as a supporter of the distillery and I enjoyed this pour considerably. WORTH BUYING AGAIN? - With the vast amount of whiskey I own, I'm not rushing to purchase another bottle. Even though it's a limited release, I'd be content to wait for future batches to see if they mature or age further.

Aroma is spicy and woody with ginger snaps, cedar, allspice, buttered popcorn, blackberry, and a yeasty, doughy note. Ethanol is almost non-existent. Wow taste is nothing like the aroma, with cake batter, vanilla icing, lime, chocolate malt, honey, oak, and an amazing strawberry note which kept me coming back for more. Everything is very “bright” with a hint of acidity, which is in no way a bad thing. Finish is on the shorter side but nicely complex featuring oatmeal, ginger ale, mint, mild char, black pepper, and oak. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and some youth finally becomes apparent in the form of some graininess which gives a little tongue tingle. This comes together nicely especially for what I can tell is a bit of a youngish wheater. Only the second Redwood Empire whiskey I’ve had and I’ve enjoyed both. At $79.99, it’s appropriately priced for the quality and probably worthy of a rebuy for its unique profile.

Notes of caramelized brown sugar, a moderate amount of oak, walnuts, and subtle almond and apple. There's also a hint of blackberry, reminiscent of the pronounced fruitiness in Weller 107. The finish is medium and pleasant, with mild tannin, spice, and a light char. This is an excellent wheated bourbon; although a bit pricey, it's satisfying to taste something similar to Weller 107, offering the fruitiness but less crispness. Overall, a fantastic addition for any fan of wheated whiskey. The artwork is awesome as usual.

The flavor notes described by others are accurate. This is really quite good, and I'd compare it to W107, though it's overpriced. Consider grabbing a Ben Holladay soft red wheat for $50; it offers a stronger flavor impact. For something a little out of the ordinary, this is a satisfying choice.

A truly distinct aroma, reflecting a grain blend I'm unaccustomed to, being composed of four grains. Sweet honey and vanilla lead, with toasted char appearing mid-palate. It's a decent dram.
