Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast Bottled in Bond Bourbon (Batch 1)

NOSE Sweet caramel, woody notes, toasted nuts, preserved citrus, aged leather, and licorice ropes with hints of dried fruit. Inviting, comforting, agreeable; a positive start. PALATE Caramel, wood, vanilla, warm spices, dark tea, and a grain sweetness alongside a faint metallic cocoa and leather. Sweet and grounded, yet sadly, quite astringent and drying. FINISH Moderately long, featuring caramel, oak, and a cereal sweetness.

Nose: cinnamon red hot candies, vanilla, and some ethanol. Palate: barrel spice, brown sugar, pepper, and something earthy like pine or wood. Finish: it does not linger. Not a big hug. Peppery pine spice at the back of the palate. Overall: It’s a really solid pour. Compared to a different expression, it falls a bit short. But it’s solid. I’d recommend picking one up.

The aroma is citrusy, and the texture on the palate is smooth and viscous. The finish is rather short but intriguing, possibly grapefruit. While not the best value, I appreciate their commitment to planting a tree for every bottle of Redwood Empire whiskey sold.

I've never encountered a whiskey this muted. Nothing on the nose, but I could detect baked beans and smoked pork during dinner. The taste is also indistinct, but I can confirm it is whiskey.

Nose is delicate. Marshmallow and sugary qualities. The palate brings pepper, caramel, and vanilla, with a hint of maple and grain. Perhaps some cherry notes are present. Quite viscous. A good pour.

Caramel, oak, vanilla, baking spice, black tea, and some cereal sweetness with a trace of copper, chalky cocoa, and leather. Sweet and earthy on the finish.
