Redemption Sur Lee draws inspiration from the French winemaking method known as 'sur lie,' which involves aging wine with the lees (primarily dead yeast cells). In this process, Redemption utilizes the backset from the still during distillation, referring to it as 'whiskey lees.' These whiskey lees are placed into the barrels before aging, and the barrels are periodically rotated to ensure continued interaction between the whiskey and the lees. Redemption Sur Lee is bottled at 94 proof without chill filtration. Initially released as a limited edition in October 2022, it was incorporated into the brand's Specialty Series as a permanent offering in August 2024 (Suggested Retail Price: $59.99).

Considerably better than the review suggested, this one has a sort of dark fruit cake characteristic. Good complexity, better than anticipated. The aroma is still quite good, somewhat like a burnt pie scent.
