Singleton 17 Year Old Dufftown 2020 Special Release 55.1% Refill American Oak Hogsheads Nose: Cleanliness, like a sparkling sink or freshly washed dishcloth, with a noticeable honey aroma emerging from within. Clearly shows the characteristics of American oak, creating an anticipation of abundant honey and floral notes upon tasting. Taste: Contrary to the nose's anticipation, there's initially little honey flavor. Instead, a light floral sweetness is perceived, as if one has entered a gentle flower garden. This is followed by a hint of beeswax, and then faint traces of honey, perfume, and the alcohol in perfume are detected. During the swallow, a tangy-sweet floral note and a touch of red fruit provide a quick zest. Finish: Bread and American oak leave a brief lingering sensation before fading. One-line review: Everything felt indistinct. The price, alcohol content, age... Compared to its peers based on these criteria, it would likely be a difficult choice.

Yesterday, I noted a shift towards fruity whiskies in my palate, but this entry from Diageo's 2020 special releases seems intent on testing my limits. It presents a pungent nose dominated by pear drops, with some grapefruit present, but primarily the aroma challenges one's tolerance for pear-flavored candy. The taste offers little improvement, with sour fruits, more grapefruit, and a sour finish. In a market abundant with excellent whisky, there's no reason to waste time on this one.

Nose: 4.5/5 - fruity, Indian, sour cream, peach fruit tea. Palate: 3.25/5 - coating, umami, sugar-like sweetness. Overall quite disappointing considering how good the nose was. Finish: 3.5/5 - long. Adding water did not enhance complexity.

Pleasant and smooth at first, had a couple of beers prior. Medicinal. Slightly sharper aftertaste. Honey-like, slight apricot
