Rampur Double Cask Single Malt

Russet color; a thick film clings to the glass as it drains, with legs forming at a moderate pace. Yellow pears, apple cider, cereal grains, and apricots on the nose; it's subtle but the scents blend well. The palate offers dark chocolate, honey, more cereal grains, raisins, and vanilla; it's straightforward but pleasing. The finish is medium-short, presenting burnt toast and a near-fennel note that fades into dry earthiness, leaving a cool wintergreen sensation. A few drops of water reveal cinnamon and nutmeg on the palate and finish. This is an easy-drinking spirit with a distinctive flavor compared to other single malts I've encountered. The finish was particularly unique, and though I didn't care for it initially, it improved as I drank. It's a pleasant spirit for a summer evening, and I refilled my glass several times while relaxing outdoors with my dogs. Given its price, I'd consider buying it again if it were half as expensive, but at its current cost, I can't justify another purchase, as other easy sippers are more budget-friendly.

Rampur Double Cask tasting notes: Nose - Fruity: Tropical fruit notes such as papaya, mango, guava, and pineapple. - Additional Notes: Pears, mild acetone, with a slight alcohol burn. - With Water: Dilution eliminates the alcohol burn and reveals more mixed fruit aromas. Palate - Fruity: Continues with warmth, apples, and dried mango. Guava became more pronounced with a few drops of water. - Other Flavors: Salted caramel, raisins, and toffee. A satisfying mouthfeel that is coating but not slick. Finish - Smoothness: Quite smooth with no alcoholic burn. - Lingering Notes: Citrus and fruits, a trace of cocoa, a slight hint of salt, and dried sweet mango that persists. - Length: A medium, but enjoyable finish. These observations were based on an initial pour, allowing the whisky to breathe for 15-20 minutes and adding 2ml of water. Overall, it was a promising beginning; this whisky exhibits a fine balance between bourbon and sherry influences. A very commendable no-age-statement whisky, showing no signs of youthfulness or harshness even from the first pour. I am confident the whisky will improve as the bottle is consumed.

I happened upon this at my local warehouse store. I haven't tried any spirits from India before, except for beer. It was also on sale, so I decided to give it a go. I must say, it wasn't too bad. The combination of fruit and oak in the aroma was quite inviting. The tasting notes included dried fruits that transitioned into sherry cask flavors. Subtle hints of vanilla and oak were also present. The finish lingered pleasantly with a touch of dryness. Overall, it was easy to drink. I think this would be suitable for any occasion.

Wow, the aroma on this is intensely spiced prunes and raisins initially. After about 10 minutes, vanilla, caramel, tropical fruits, apple cider, toasted oak, tobacco, browned butter, and perhaps turmeric? and cumin? Very complex. The palate is viscous, creamy, and semi-sweet with raisins, prunes, caramel, vanilla, tobacco, malt, dried tropical fruit, and Indian spices. The finish is long and warming with vanilla, dried fruits, baking spices, and Indian spices.

NOSE Apple cider, oak, honey, nuts, dried tropical fruit, malty sweetness, and a bit of herbal notes. Nice, this is soft and fruity without being spineless, a good profile to start. PALATE Herbal, apple cider, dried pears, nuts, malty sweet, nutmeg, white pepper, and some oak and tropical fruit. A very slight cocoa note appears as it opens, but on the whole, it’s herbally fruity. FINISH Medium -> Malty, herbal, slightly oaky, and baking spice.

Fascinating. A classic single malt, but with some water, it REALLY opens up. Cherry, banana, and fruit sweetness in the body, with a sherry roundness that's lovely. It's also strangely floral, with a honey sweetness? It's good and complex.
