PUNI Vina Marsala Edition

Who would have imagined trying an entirely Italian whisky? Raisins and walnuts dominate both the aroma and taste. The Marsala influence is significant and positive, strongly defining the product. It's very enjoyable, particularly on the palate: full-bodied despite its youth, and suitable even as an aperitif. In summary, a success! The finish is somewhat brief and weak, with a faint musty aftertaste, but it's forgivable. Otherwise, the rating could be around 4.1-4.2, which is quite good! Let's award 4.5 as encouragement, as I'm now very intrigued to sample older bottlings given the exceptional work accomplished here with limited experience (remember, this company started in 2010, unlike distilleries operating for over two centuries!). The bottle itself is also very attractive, reminding me of a famous Futurist piece by Bertelli.

The initial aroma is rich with wine-soaked grains, plus abundant orange, honey, and raisins. It presents as very warm, mellow, and sweet, sometimes overwhelmingly so. Though the holiday season has passed, it evokes the sensation of a traditional Italian confection. On the palate, the alcohol is more prominent than expected, leaving a somewhat dry sensation. The sweetness from the aroma is subdued by a discordant acidity, disrupting the balance: candied orange, yellow fruit, and alcohol are present, with a trace, regrettably, of grappa. The initial olfactory promise is unfulfilled, leading to a feeling of being somewhat let down. The finish is moderate, featuring a return of grains and alcohol with orange notes.

Enjoyable, sugary, and easy to drink, yet it still has surprising depth. Nose - reminiscent of a charcuterie board sans the meats or cheeses, with notes of walnuts, raisins, figs, honey, and a touch of marmalade Taste - sweet honey, figs with spice, dried apricot, and walnuts Finish - lingering sweetness, much like finishing a spoonful of honey, with a very gentle warmth

Nose: Slightly sweet (port character), almond, raisins, marzipan. Well balanced, smooth, velvety Taste: Various sweet tones, difficult (for me) to distinguish the individual components. Faint bitter note. Finish: Perhaps the only somewhat disappointing aspect. Quite short, with the bitterness becoming more prominent.

Nose: Concentrated sweetness of dried fruit, raisins, marmalade. Taste: Bittersweet syrup mouthfeel, a bit like toffee, pure chocolate, and a very slight peppery note. Finish: Quite long, warm, with concentrated sweetness and a more pronounced bitterness.

This spirit might warrant a higher score; I'm quite fond of the honey-infused character. Still, it lacks a certain finesse... pleasant overall, though I doubt I'll recall much about it later.
