About this bottle

The Taub family established the Jacob's Pardon brand to commemorate Jacob and Abner Taub, who were whiskey producers and bootleggers. They were apprehended and imprisoned during Prohibition in 1929. President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued them a pardon, with the official document still existing, prior to their establishment of Baltimore Club, a company involved in American whiskey blending and bottling. This emblem appears on the packaging for this single barrel bottling, chosen by spirits authority F. Paul Pacult for the Taub Family co. It is a traditional light whiskey from MGP, made from 99% corn whiskey and 1% barley malt, and has matured for 15 years in pre-owned American oak.

On the palate, the whiskey delivers an immediate and very brief burst of intense sweetness, reminiscent of simple syrup or cake frosting, before settling into more balanced flavors of honey buns, sweet corn, and stewed peaches. The finish is quite peppery and lengthy, becoming herbaceous with a minty sharpness. Once my palate adjusted to the whiskey's boldness, especially the finish, it became easy to drink. There was no lingering alcohol burn. The initial sugary hit on the palate might be overwhelming for some, but this is a high-proof whiskey, technically too strong for airplane travel, so its intensity is clearly advertised. I suspect the intensity is intentional.
