About this bottle
The Port Ellen distillery ceased operations in 1983, a closure reflecting the widespread whisky industry downturn of that era. Post-closure, remaining stock from the Islay distillery was preserved. These bottlings are highly valued due to their scarcity. This single malt has remained undisturbed since 1978, maturing in refill American oak hogsheads and butts. After 37 years, it is bottled at its cask strength of 55.2% ABV. This expression is part of Diageo's 2016 Special Releases, with a total of 2,940 bottles produced.
